CASTLEWOOD ELEMENTARY SRO TERMINATED AFTER ALCOHOL RELATED INCIDENT
A CASTLEWOOD VIRGINIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER HAS BEEN TERMINATED, FOLLOWING AN ALCOHOL RELATED INCIDENT. ACCORDING TO RUSSELL COUNTY SHERIFF BILL WATSON, RYAN GARDNER WAS SENT HOME FROM HIS JOB ON SEPTEMBER 5TH AMID REPORTS TO THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE ABOUT AN ALLEGED ODOR OF ALCOHOL ON GARDNER’S BREATH. WATSON SAID GARDNER WAS SENT HOME AND SUBSEQUENTLY SUSPENDED. THEN ON THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 6TH HE WAS TERMINATED FROM HIS POSITION. WATSON SAID REPORTING HAS BEEN SENT FROM HIS OFFICE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE TO DECERTIFY GARDNER.
SOME JOHNSON CITY ROADS CLOSED AS CREWS REPAIR GAS LEAK
DRIVERS IN JOHNSON CITY WERE ASKED TO AVOID SEVERAL ROADS TUESDAY AFTERNOON DUE TO A GAS LEAK. WHILE THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE LEAK WAS NOT DISCLOSED, PORTIONS OF KNOB CREEK ROAD, SUNSET DRIVE AND THE STATE OF FRANKLIN – SUNSET DRIVE INTERSECTION WERE INCLUDED IN THE NOTICE. REPAIRS WERE EXPECT TO CONTINUE INTO SOMETIME EARLY THIS MORNING. THE KNOB CREEK ROAD – SUNSET DRIVER INTERSECTION WAS EXPECTED TO REMAIN CLOSED WHILE REPAIR WORK CONTINUED.
WISE COUNTY STUDENT CHARGED AFTER MAKING ALLEGED THREATS
A STUDENT IN THE WISE COUNTY VIRGINIA SCHOOL SYSTEM HAS BEEN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY MAKING THREATS DIRECTED TOWARDS A SCHOOL. ACCORDING TO SHERIFF GRANT KILGORE, THE SCHOOL INVOLVED WAS WITHIN THE UNION SCHOOL SYSTEM IN BIG STONE GAP. KILGORE SAID THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE THREATS MONDAY EVENING. OFFICERS WORKED THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT AND INTO MORNING TO IDENTIFY A PERSON OF INTEREST. KILGORE STATE THE SUSPECT IS IN CUSTODY AND HAS BEEN CHARGED. THEIR IDENTITY WILL NOT BE RELEASED DUE TO THEIR AGE. THE INVESTIGATION REMAINS ONGOING.

MARSH REGIONAL BLOOD CENTER IS HOSTING ITS ANNUAL 9/11 MEMORIAL BLOOD DRIVE TODAY AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY. THE DRIVE WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 10 THIS MORNING TO 6 THIS EVENING AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY’S NORTH ENTRANCE. MARSH WILL PROVIDE EACH DONOR WITH A CARD BEARING THE NAME OF SOMEONE WHO LOST THEIR LIFE ON SEPTEMBER 11TH. DONORS WILL ALSO RECEIVE A SPECIAL T-SHIRT AND 20 OUNCE TUMBLER. TN HEALTH DEPT REPORTS 1ST POSITIVE MEASLES CASE SINCE 2019
THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IS TRACKING THE FIRST CASE OF MEASLES IN THE STATE SINCE 2019. THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT ON TUESDAY CONFIRMED A SINGLE POSITIVE MEASLES TEST OF A TENNESSEE RESIDENT WHO RECENTLY TRAVELLED INTERNATIONALLY, SPENT TIME IN KENTUCKY, DURING THE INFECTIOUS PERIOD, AND IS NOW RECOVERING FROM THE VIRUS. NO OTHER POSITIVE CASES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED IN TENNESSEE. THE MEASLES VIRUS CAN SPREAD THROUGH THE AIR WHEN AN INFECTED PERSON SPEAKS, COUGHS, OR SNEEZES.
VDOT WARNS DON’T BE FOOLED BY LOW TEMPS
THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS WARNING THE PUBLIC ABOUT LEAVING CHILDREN IN A VEHICLE, EVEN WITH FALL TEMPERATURES IN THE AIR. TEMPERATURES AS LOW AS 60 DEGREES OUTSIDE ARE STILL DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE LEFT INSIDE A VEHICLE, AS TEMPERATURES CAN RISE QUICKLY, CAUSING VEHICULAR HEATSTROKE. PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS ARE WARNED TO MAKE SURE NOT TO LEAVE CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY SLEEPING BABIES IN HE CAR, AND TO ALWAYS CHECK THE BACK SEAT BEFORE GETTING OUT.
KINGSPORT POLICE ASKING FOR HELP FINDING MISSING TEEN
THE KINGSPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT IS ASKING FOR THE PUBLIC’S HELP WITH FIND A MISSING 16 YEAR OLD GIRL. BRIANNA WEEMS WAS REPORTED MISSING AS A RUNAWAY ON SEPTEMBER 1ST. WEEMS LEFT LINK HOUSE, AND WAS LAST SEEN IN THE AREA OF NEW BEASON WELL ROAD, A WHITE T-SHIRT AND BLACK SHORTS. WEEMS HAS BLONDE AHIR, BROWN EYES, AND WEARS GLASSES.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED ON WARRANTS AFTER HIDING FROM AUTHORITIES
GREENEVILLE POLICE ARRIVED AT A HOME SUNDAY AROUND 1:15 AM TO SERVE A WARRANT ON A SUSPECT. POLICE WERE LET INTO THE RESIDENCE BY THE HOMEOWNER, AND DURING A SEARCH, LOCATED A MALE HIDING UNDER A TARP IN THE BASEMENT. THE MAN IDENTIFIED AS CHRISTOPHER SMITH HAD AN ACTIVE ARRANT FOR VIOLATION OF PROBATION AND WAS TAKEN TO THE GREENE COUNTY DETENTION CENTER. THE GREENE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RESPONDED TO A HOME IN MOSHEIM FOR A WARRANT CHECK ON JASON ROGERS, AROUND 10:30 PM SUNDAY. NO ONE CAME TO THE DOOR BUT OFFICERS COULD HEAR SOMEONE MOVING INSIDE, AND SAW A MALE JUMP OVER A COUCH. AFTER GETTING ACCESS TO THE BUILDING, ROGERS WAS FOUND HIDING BEHIND THE COUCH. HE WAS ARRESTED ON OUTSTANDING WARRANTS.
GREENEVILLE WOMAN CHARGED WITH RECKLESS DRIVING
A GREENEVILLE WOMAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER SHE CAME UPON AN ACCIDENT MONDAY NIGHT. ACCORDING TO THE GREENE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, OFFICERS WERE WORKING A WRECK WITH INJURIES AT THE INTERSECTION OF ASHEVILLE HIGHWAY AND GREENFIELD STREET AROUND 10 PM. THERE WERE SEVERAL EMERGENCY VEHICLES ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY WHEN SHERRY LEAKE DROVE ONTO THE SCENE AFTER BEING GUIDED BY A FIREFIGHTER. SHE ALLEGEDLY ACCELERATED TOO FAST ON THE RESTRICTED ROADWAY, AND WOULD HAVE HIT OFFICERS IF THEY DID NOT MOVE, AND CAME EXTREMELY CLOSE TO HITTING OTHER PERSONNEL. LEAKE WAS CHARGED WITH RECKLESS DRIVING.
