MAN SHOT AT PHARMACY SHOOTER ARRESTED

ACCORDING TO A RELEASE FROM THE BIG STONE GAP VIRGINIA POLICE DEPARTMENT, A MAN WAS SHOT IN THE PARKING LOT OF ECONOMY DRUG IN BIG STONE GAP AROUND 1;35 PM SUNDAY. WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED, THEY FOUND ONE VICTIM. THE ALLEGED SHOOTER FLED, AND WITNESSES REPORTED THAT HE RAN INTO THE BACK DOOR OF CURKLINu2019S RESTAURANT. THE RESTAURANT WAS EVACUATED, AND WAS THEN SURROUNDED BY OFFICERS WITH THE BIG STONE GAP POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND WISE COUNTY SHERIFFu2019S OFFICE. THE ALLEGED SHOOTER WHOSE NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT. CHARGES ARE PENDING. THE VICTIMS CONDITION ALSO HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED.

BODY OF MISSING SWVA MAN FOUND

THE BODY OF A MISSING SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA MAN, LAST SEEN LEAVING A COMMUNITY HOSPITAL TWO WEEKS AGO HAS BEEN FOUND. ACCORDING TO THE DICKENSON COUNTY SHERIFFu2019S OFFICE, THE BODY OF 41 YEAR OLD JASON KEITH MULLINS WAS FOUND NEAR WHERE HE WENT MISSING. NORTON POLICE SAY MULLINS OF CLINTWOOD VIRGINIA, VISITED A PATIENT AT NORTH COMMUNITY HOSPITAL ON NOVEMBER 13TH. HE WAS LAST SEEN LEAVING THE HOSPITAL THAT NIGHT. NO OTHER DETAILS HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

BRIGHTRIDGE TO ISSUE RECOVERY CREDIT TO CUSTOMERS

BRIGHTRIDGE DIRECTORS VOTED UNANIMOUSLY LAST WEEK, TO PASS ALONG ITS FULL TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY PANDEMIC RECOVERY CREDIT TO RESIDENTIAL AND SMALL COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS, PROVIDING 2.66 MILLION DOLLARS IN BILL RELIEF IN 2023. THE CREDITS WILL BE ISSUED DURING TWO MONTHS, IN FEBRUARY AND JULY, AND WILL AVERAGE BETWEEN 12 AND 20 DOLLARS PER CREDIT, WITH THE FINAL AMOUNT FIXED BY SYSTEM USAGE, WHICH DETERMINES THE TVA REFUND TO BRIGHTRIDGE.

ONE DEAD ONE INJURED AFTER SATURDAY MORNING FIRE

ONE PERSON IS DEAD AND ANOTHER WAS INJURED, AFTER A HOUSE FIRE IN FALL BRANCH SATURDAY MORNING. ACCORDING TO GREENE COUNTY SHERIFF WESLEY HOLT, A CALL ABOUT A STRUCTURE FIRE CAME IN AT 8:50 SATURDAY MORNING, AND UNITS FROM THE UNITED GREENE COUNTY, FALL BRANCH, SULPHUR SPRINGS AND GRAY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS, AS WELL AS THE GREENEVILLE CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED. THE FIRST CREWS TO ARRIVE SAID THE FIRE WAS ABOUT 70 PER INVOLVED. SIX OF SEVEN PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN THE HOUSE WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE, WITH ONE SUSTAINING SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE BURNS, HOWEVER A 66 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS UNABLE TO ESCAPE AND DIED. THE INJURED PERSON WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT, AND THE REMAINS OF THE PERSON WHO DIED WERE SENT FOR AUTOPSY AND IDENTIFICATION. THE TBI IS ASSISTING THE GREENE COUNTY SHERIFFu2019S OFFICE IN DETERMINING THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE.

FIRE AT NORTON DOLLAR GENERAL

FIRE FIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO EXTINGUISH A FIRE AT A DOLLAR GENERAL STORE IN NORTON VIRGINIA FRIDAY. ACCORDING TO CHIEF TODD LAGOW WITH THE NORTON FIRE DEPARTMENT, THEY WERE ALERTED TO THE FIRE ON PARK AVENUE JUST BEFORE 1:00 PM FRIDAY. B LACK SMOKE WAS REPORTED COMING FROM INSIDE THE STORE. WHEN FIRE FIGHTERS ARRIVED ALL CUSTOMERS AND STAFF HAD BEEN EVACUATED FROM THE BUILDING. MOST OF THE FIRE HAD ALREADY BEEN EXTINGUISHED BY A CUSTOMER AND A MANAGER USING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

HIKER RESCUED FROM LAUREL FALLS

AN INJURED HIKER WAS RESCUED FROM THE WOOD IN CARTER COUNTY SATURDAY. ACCORDING TO JOHN BURLESON WITH THE CARTER COUNTY RESCUE SQUAD, THE HIKER WAS LOCATED IN THE LAUREL FALLS AREA, NEAR HAMPTON. BURLESON SAID THE HIKER WAS WELL PREPARED, AND WAS OUT HIKING AND CAMPING, BUT SUFFERED A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. THE RESCUE SQUAD USED ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES AND A TEAM ON FOOT TO MAKE THEIR WAY TO THE HIKER.

EMERGENCY CREWS RESPOND TO HOUSE FIRE IN JOHNSON CITY

EMERGENCY CREWS RESPONDED TO A HOUSE FIRE IN JOHNSON CITY SATURDAY NIGHT. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL SAID ONE MAN WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE ON EAST BROOK LANE WHEN THE FIRE STARTED. THE MAN QUICKLY ESCAPED TO A NEIGHBORu2019S HOUSE. THE STRUCTURE WAS NOT CONNECTED TO ANY ELECTRICAL SUPPLY, AND THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT WITHIN 30 MINUTES.

COMMISSIONERS TO DECIDE FATE OF BITCOIN LITIGATION

THE WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE COMMISSION WILL VOTE ON A RESOLUTION TONIGHT, CALLING FOR THE COUNTY TO REJECT THE FINAL DRAFT OF AN AGREEMENT TO SETTLE A ZONING LAWSUIT INVOLVING A BITCOIN MINING OPERATION IN LIMESTONE. THE COUNTYu2019S COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL, AND AGRICULTURAL COMMITTEE, HAS RECOMMENDED COMMISSIONERS REJECT THE LEGAL AGREEMENT, AND PROCEED WITH A LAWSUIT THE COUNTY FILED AGAINST BRIGHTRIDGE, AND RED DOG TECHNOLOGIES. THE COMMISSION IS SCHEDULED TO MEET WITH ITu2019S ATTORNEYu2019S BEHIND CLOSED DOORS BEFORE THE START OF ITS 6:00 PM MEETING AT THE GEORGE JAYNE JUSTICE CENTER.
