The New York Yankees placed second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list Thursday and recalled infielder Anthony Volpe from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Chisholm, 28, is dealing with a right thumb strain. The two-time All-Star is batting .232 with 19 home runs, 55 RBIs and a team-high 40 stolen bases in 134 games this season.
Volpe, a former Gold Glove winner, lost his starting shortstop job to rookie George Lombard Jr. last month. He has batted .240 with one homer and 19 RBIs in 56 games this season with the Yankees.
Volpe, 25, batted .264 with a .906 OPS, 11 homers, 26 RBIs and 10 steals in 37 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He hit .524 with three homers and six RBIs in his last six contests.
