New Jersey Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom will miss “a couple of weeks” with a lower-body injury, head coach Sheldon Keefe said Wednesday.
Markstrom sustained the injury in the waning moments of the Devils’ 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.
“He’s going to miss a couple of weeks probably,” Keefe said. “I consider it good news considering what had happened. I don’t consider it too serious at this point, but he’s going to have to miss a little bit of time.”
Fellow goaltender Nico Daws was recalled from Utica of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. The Devils also placed forward Zack MacEwen (upper body) on injured reserve.
Markstrom, 35, is 2-1-0 with a 3.89 goals-against average and .845 save percentage in three games (two starts) this season.
He is 243-213-63 with 24 shutouts, a 2.71 GAA and .908 SP in 16 seasons with the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Devils.
Daws, 24, is 22-23-1 with one shutout, a 2.98 GAA and .898 SP in 52 career games (47 starts) with New Jersey.
