Seattle Kraken forward Kaapo Kakko will be sidelined for six weeks with a broken hand, the team announced Saturday.
The 24-year-old Finland native sustained the injury during Wednesday’s 4-1 preseason win at Edmonton.
The recovery timeline means Kakko will miss the first month of the regular season, which begins on Oct. 9.
Kakko contributed 30 points (10 goal, 20 assists) in 49 games with Seattle last season after being acquired in a Dec. 18 trade with the New York Rangers.
He signed a three-year, $13.75 million contract with the Kraken on July 22.
Kakko has recorded 161 points (71 goals, 90 assists) in 379 career games with the New York Rangers (2019-24) and Kraken.
